Pinewood Pro ShopThere is family history connecting Tyler Hummel with local golf courses.  Hummel returned to North Bay this Spring to take over as Head Professional at Pinewood Park from departing Professional Dan Garagan.

Hummel’s family connections run deep in the golf industry.  Tyler’s Mom, Karen, is currently the Office Manager at The North Bay Golf and Country Club.  His Dad, Len, runs the kitchen and catering for the Club.  But connections don’t stop there.

His brother, Brad works on the Green’s Crew at The Barrie Golf and Country Club.  Tyler’s twin Sister, Ashley had worked many years in the Clubhouse at North Bay.

The connection with Pinewood is also deep.  His Grandparents, John and Faye Horton,  participated in many Section play and tournaments over the years.  Faye passed away this past December and will be greatly missed Thursday’s when the Ladies Section gets under way in a few weeks.  Over the years I’ve played a few rounds with John and Faye along with my Mom.  It was always fun to have a ‘drink’ to celebrate finishing the front nine.  No matter the time of day, there was always a clinking of bottles coming from the 10th tee.

Not only connections within the Hummel family but also some extended family members have major golf mojo, including Tyler’s Uncle, Todd Horton and Cousin Sam Barber.

Pinewood Pro ShopI dropped in on a rainy Monday to say Hi and had a quick talk with Tyler and he is excited for the new challenge.  Tyler has spent the last few years keeping busy, working with the PGA of Canada last year at their head office in Stoufville and before that working as an Assistant at The Midland Golf and Country Club.

During our brief talk, he said that section play will remain the same (dates and times) and looks forward to meeting new members and help grow the game in the area.

The course looks to be in great shape and Tyler hopes that you have a chance to check out the changes and new staff at Pinewood Park.
